Question
We have 2 male labs, one is almost 3, the other is 1.5 years. Neither are neutered; considering breeding the older one b/c of wonderful temperment and good looks. Never considered breeding the younger one.

Last week, the younger lab bit the gas meter reader who entered our yard. Two days later, bit an adult man who was a guest at our house; and later that evening, while on a leash at a park, bit a woman who came over to pet him. All attacks unprovoked (unless you consider meter reader entering our yard as provoking) and we are at our wits end.

He is scheduled for neutering later this week. Any other suggestions?

Answer
I am very happy you plan to neuter him.  I am very upset with all the similar questions I see from people that will not consider neutering because they still plan on breeding.  Thank you.  Don't expect overnight or dramatic results from the neutering.  It will take a while for hormone levels to drop, and while effective, it is not a cure all.

The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/

If you are top dog, he shouldn't have to bite the meter reader and other threats.  You can also try letting people give him treats.
