are sterilized bones safe?

Question
I know rawhide is not good for dogs, but what about these 100% natural sterilized bones I see at the pet store.  Are they safe?  My lab is 8 months old and does better if she has something to chew when I have to leave her for a couple of hours.

Thanks for all you do!!

Answer
My only objection to them is that they wear the teeth down faster.  My 12 year old Aster has never had anything except Nylabones and Kongs to chew.  Her teeth are still in very good shape, better than many dogs half her age.  Her mother gets the sterilized beef bones, and her teeth have been in much worse shape for years.

I don't like the consumable treats either the flavored Nylabones or the Greenie dental chews.  To quick to be gnawed down to where the whole thing can be gulped down.

Nylabones come in many different shapes which different ones attract different dogs.  You have to hunt.  Many love the dinosaur shaped ones.  Rings, ''Y'' bones, and other shapes attract some dogs.  I recently checked a Petsmart, and they hardly had anything except 99 variations of the plain long bones.  Many dogs love a Nylabone stuck in a Kong.  It makes them easier to hold.  You can also fill the Kong with peanut butter.  The kibble balls don't work well with my Labs.  They just work at chewing them up.  No toy is completely safe.  I had to remove a Kong my Nita was chewing up last spring.
