Labrador reproduction

My 9 month chocolate lab is experiencing her first period.  She was ok in the beginning, but is now very swolen down there, and extremely anxious.  She is whining and appears to have some difficulty sitting.  She is spotting pretty good and has been for several days.

Is this normal?

My daughter gave her a bath today.  I'm wondering if maybe the soap iritated her swolen, sensitive areas and this might be the problem.

Any experience with this?

The bath may have been a mistake.  A bath or swimming when in season can lead to infections maybe even fatal ones.  I would at least call the vet tomorrow.  Flaky behavior is normal.  I don't recall difficulty with sitting.  Of course, often they are too hyper to try to sit down.
