Lab Allergies

Question
My Yellow lab will be 2yrs old this month & we have had problems with her licking & bitting her paws raw.  Vet has prescribed her medicine "Clemastine 2.68mg"  which has helped until now.  Spring is here & she is still on medicine & starting all over again. The inside web part of her feet get really red & irritated. Vet suggests Allergy test but we can not afford pricy test right now. Do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Typically, doing the allergy test is a good idea because it will tell you exactly what the dog is allergic too.  Some tests can be as specific to name the grass and tree pollen.

Have you considered what the dog is eating?  If the dog is not on a good quality, natural food, you may want to try a switch as that could eliminate some of the trouble you are experiencing.

You can also try giving benedryl tablets.  One pink pill is 25 mg, and the dosage for dogs is 1 mg per pound of dog.
