Question
We have a 6 month old black lab. She is the best dog in the world when it is just me in the room or just my wife in the room. She will lay down behave calm as can be but when it come time for both me and my wife to be in the room the lab will get hyper. It seems to happen more in  the evening time around 8 to 9 oclock. my wife says it kind of reminds her of a kid trying to keep herself awake. We just need to know if there is something we need to be doing different when we all in the same room. Thank you

Answer
Having a good pack structure reduces such problems.  The dogs see all the
people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in
the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members
outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by
reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class
or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with
a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/

She may be competing for attention.  She is trying to prevent the 2 of you from giving the other one attention.  Good time to spay her if not already.  That will help.
