3 yr old lab behavior change

Question
My choc.lab all of a sudden is bothered by shadows and reflections.  It really has become a problem. On walks, in the yard, looking outside on to the road during car rides, and even anything that casts any type of reflection.  He becomes Overly preoccupied and barks. It almost impossible to break him away.  I was wondering if this is a sympton of a vision disorder, or is he just a little OCD.

Answer
Most behavior changes call for a vet check.  Could be a vision or even a hearing problem.  Could be the final maturing of his personality that occurs at about 3 years old.

Don't coddle him.  No ''Oh, poor little doggie!''.  Remain happy and confident and try to get him to focus on you.  Have you obedience trained him?  The key to most behavior problems is approaching things using the dog's natural instincts.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat. Start at http://www.dogsbestfriend.com/
