Walking a puppy (10 weeks)

Question
I'm interested in your input comcerning my 10 week old yellow lab.  I'm having trouble walking her.  She does not want to walk AWAY from our house.  We have been somewhat successful coaxing her with treats (her own dog food), but she still whines and refuses to walk.  After turning around and walking towards our house she is great, and walks with no problem.  It's been about 10 days now and it doesn't seem like we are progressing.  She is very stubborn (only when it comes to walking).  Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks, Ken

Answer
I am surprised she is still that way after 10 days.  Try making a production out of taking down the leash talking excitedly about going for a walk.  Use a happy voice and babble about how much fun the walk will be.  Keep is up as you leave.  When she stops, go out in front of her, and coax her.  If the area is safe to do so, no street to scamper into, lay the leash down and walk off.  Rather than face the dreaded alone, she may run to you.  Give her lots of praise every time she moves forward.
