How to make lab as a watch dog??

I have ordered for a lab puppy and it will reach in my hands within 20 days i hope.  Now its 17 days old.  I came to know that lab are generaly pet dogs and cannot be used as a watch or guard dog..Is there any way to make it guard dog as well?? any training method..?

Hi Venu,

Because labs aren't 'ferocious'(the ones you see in movies), they are perceived as poor watch dogs. However, they have all the qualities required for an excellent watch dog.

They are probably the most intelligent breed, They have excellent senses and they are strong and well built. The only problem is that labs tend to become lazy and want to make friends with everyone. This is the most difficult part of training a lab since you are making him go away from his innate nature of making friends with anyone and everyone.
