Lab baths

Question
I have a yellow lab that goes to the beach every day but doesn't swim except in the summer. When we get home I hose her down.
Other than that I only bathe her (at the groomers) once or twice a year. She doesn't stink, but I think that bathing her too frequently dries out her skin. She is not a stinky dog, but my wife thinks it should be more often.

What are your thoughts on this??

Answer
Paul, we do the same thing.  I rarely bathe the dogs, mostly hose them off.  Labs are water dogs and need the natural oils in their coats to keep their coats nice.  Too much bathing with shampoo is hard on their coats and will dry them out.

If you want, there are conditioning sprays and things you can put on the dog when you brush them to make them smell fresh.  It might make your wife feel the dog is "cleaner".
