Question

Psique
Hi! I was wondering if I can stil spay six year and a half Labrador. She has always been very healthy, but I am affraid to sedate her at this age. Her doctor has todl me he will remove her uterus and ovaries. Is this what I sould do? She was never bread any puppies. I know spayoing her can prevent cancer and uterine infections. She is very well taken car of. At this age should I spay her or not? Thanks so much for your help!!!

Answer
Yes, it is probably a good idea to spay her.  Many breeders actually spay their girls after they are done having litters which is at about 6 years, and they all bounce back pretty well.

The one thing that tends to happen to girls at this age is Pyometria, which can be very dangerous if it's not caught.  It's an infection in the uterus.

If she has been healthy to this point, the sedation should be OK for her.
