Lab lunging for food rewards

Question
Hi, I have a 2 year old Lab in which is quite well behaved (compared to some I read about)except when I try to reward her for walking well or doing what I say with a food treat, she lunges at my hand and nearly takes my fingers off in the process of trying to get the food. I have tried pulling my hand back saying 'gentle', but that makes her even more determined to get it. How can I stop this? Her world revolves around food like most Labs (She is on a weight loss program with our local Vet, but was the same as this when eating normal food).
Also, when around other dogs, she continually annoys them and wants to play even when the other dog becomes cranky and snappy towards her. How do I get her to settle down?

Answer
Hello Donna and thank you for your questions,

My lab was like thiswhen she was under a year old, THe easy way to solve this is to place the treat in your hand and cup it into a fist with the treat in the middle, offer it to her she will poke and lick your fingers after she has done this and is being gental with your hand open it and give her the food reward...she wont bite your hand just tell her easy or careful and then open it for her to take from your palm. I am not sure how to settle your lab mine is simaler to this my Haylie is one year older turning three in december on the 23ard, and is still very playful and will harrasse my other dogs whenever she wants to play but is always very gentle. I noticed Haylie settled wth age she is much calmer then she was last year or during her first year with us, You will need to leash her and keep her by yuor side when visiting friends with dogs if she is being too bother some to the other dogs....you never want the other do to get mad and bite her this can spark seaver dog fights.
