Question
I have a 1 year old lad male that I got 3 months ago. The previous owners reported they had a hard time potting training the dog. In that he would have accidents often. With us, he was doing pretty good until recently. He maybe had a total of 5 accidents until recently. We have 3 other dogs. The lab is happy with the other dogs and they like him. The problem is he will periodically pee in the floor without even attempting to go to the door. Yesterday, we slept in a little later than we normally do. When we went to get him out of his crate, he wet in the back of the crate as we were attempting to get him out. Then he wet in the house 2 other times throughout the day. We correct him by telling him no in a loud voice and then taking him outside but this doesn't seem to be effective. Two of the other dogs are fully house broken and it is very rare for them to have an accident. Then we have an older pug that will have accidents on the rug near the door 2 to 3 times a week. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Please advice.

Answer
I would have the vet check both him and the pug.  Some of the bladder control problems in older dogs are treatable.  When you are around you need to keep a close eye on the dog.  Use closed doors or gates to keep it in the same room as you are, and perhaps as I do, a short chain fastened to the computer desk.  If you catch it in the act, give it a sharp ''Ah, ah, ah!'' and take it out.  When you can't watch it, crate it.
