6 months old Lab throwing up

Question
My 6 month old lab throws up several times a week during the night.  Sometimes it looks like he is throwing up his entire dinner.  Other times it looks like phlem.  I called the vet and they said that he might have an obstruction, but if he did, he wouldn't go to the bathroom.  He goes to the bathroom just fine and there is never anything in it.  He gets plenty of exercise and never acts sick.  He is scheduled to be neutered in June.  He weighs 57 lbs. and eats 3 cups of Nutro Max Large Breed puppy in the morning and 3 cups again at night.  Do you have any ideas why he is throwing up in his crate?

Answer
Hello, Sounds like he is being overfed, nutro max large breed puppy is a high quaility food and for such a small lab 57 pounds 6 bcups per day seems to be way over doing it...some labrador retreivers are known to eat and eat and eat whatever is offered even if they are full and not hungry...hence he would puke it back up. My 3 year old spayed 75 pound labrador retreiver female eats only 4 cups of lite Authority chicken based kibble daily and isnt hungry/asking for more and isnt over weight or underweight by any means....if a dog this heavy only needs 4 cups a day why would a 57 pound dog need 6 cups of a slightly higher quality kibble. My advice is drop the feeding amount to 4 1/2 to 5 cups and he should stop vomiting his kibble back up, also cut down on fatty treats such as beggin strips/pork hides or other things of the sort these also may be disturbing his stomach. This sould cure him of his throwing up.
