developing sniffing/finding

Hello, I have my first yellow lab! He is wonderful. Almost 6 mos old, getting neutored this Saturday. I would love to introduce him to water and finding things via sniffing. Any advice to start?

I think the vet will advise you to keep him out of the water until the incision heals.  I have had Labs that I didn't introduce them to water early, and they really didn't like it.  I would suggest you start with a still pond with a sloping bottom.  He may jump right in and take off.  Otherwise, try throwing a stick or ball in the edge of the water.  Wading in yourself or having another dog that likes the water will help too.  

Not all dogs like the water.  Last summer, I had a Golden that drank out of the river without getting his feet wet.
