Choc Lab and soft stool

Question
We have a 9 year old Chocolate Lab.  He has had soft stool for over five months now.  I have taken him to the vet and was told his stool was fine, no worms, parasites etc.  I am so frustrated because he is an inside dog and I have to wipe his hiny everytime he comes in.  We have changed his food only once.  Still we are having issues.  What do I do?  Please help.

Answer
Have you had the vet recheck his stool?  Sometimes they miss something.  have you discussed allergies?  Perhaps even have a second vet check him.

You could be over feeding him.  Your dog definitely should be narrower at the waist than the hips and chest. You should be able to easily feel the ribs, but not see them. Each dog is different. Standard recommendations are a good place to start, but each dog must have its food and exercise adjusted to its individual needs. You could try changing dog food.  Something different, but necessarily more expensive.  Say Iams lamb and rice in place of Pro Plan chicken or vice versa.
