no training

Hi Karen:
My new male lab approx 1 yr obviously never had any training prior and I'm having a hell of time just trying to get this boy to sit.  We've done about 15 sits a day for the last 3 days, with and without food, and he still won't sit without being physically put into one. Then he immediately stands before I can even get the treat in his mouth.  I put my 11 mon old girl thru obedience and maybe 4 sits was all it took, I just don't get this guy?

Hi Bonny Jean,
Males are sometimes harder to train than females anyways! You also have to remember that different parentage may affect their intelligence and management, not to mention prior owner handling.
  It will take a lot more patience and practice but I would suggest that when he gets up before getting the treat in his mouth to immediately remove the treat and make him resit and stay. I am not sure what method you used in training before but when he sits, then use the hand and vocal signal for stay until he stays for at least 10 seconds.
 Just give it some time and he will get the idea.
