Question
I rescued a huskie just a few days ago and she went into heat today.
She is aprox. 18 months old in good form and has all huskie characteristics except her hair is on the short side.
ive allready had offers to breed her asap but i dont know if she is ready. She has had no previous litters. Is she too young?

Answer
I would strongly suggest against breeding her because you probably don't have a good idea of her genetic history.  Not knowing or understanding her family history could lead to inadvertent genetic problems being passed on to her litter.  These problems may not be anything that affects her, but recessive traits can obviously skip generations and not be apparent in your female husky.  If you do know her genetic line and she is just re-homed from a professional and reputable breeder, I would suggest talking with the breeder about her line and working from there.  Generally, you'll need to wait until at least 24 months old to complete OFA and CERF certifications.
