Siberian Husky puppy w/ Child

Question
I have a 5 month old baby who is still trying to learn crawling and needs to spend as much time as possible on the floor. Well, my husband just brought home a new 6 week old Siberian husky, and has had me reading all the dog training and feeding for new pups I can handle, but nothing has told me how to do this while introducing a pup to a baby. My son has just gotten use to barking, which we are now getting our husky to stop inside, but were having a hard time keeping him away and off our son when he's on the floor, in his swing, and in my lap. The licking isn't a problem, but he wants to try to stand and lay on him. What other training ideas can you tell me for dealing with a child and our husky.

Answer
It's tough, but I have two 6 year old Sibes and a 6 month old baby, so I understand the dilemma.  However, the best advice is this:

1) Keep them separated when you can't supervise.  Tough, as a 6 week old Sibe needs a lot of attention, but you will have to "divide and conquer" in many cases.

2) Encourage the Sibe to have toys and treats to keep him busy while your baby boy gets to spend some floor time.

3) When the Sibe approaches your son, let that interaction happen, but once the Sibe starts pawing at or standing on the baby, correct the pup.  Usually a stern "No!" and moving the dog physically away should help.  Then, try to redirect the attention to something positive (treat, toy, etc.)

It's a slow process, but it should help and if you are attentive, it will be fun to watch the two of them grow together!
