Question
Our Great Dane is currently 7 weeks old. We brought her home at 5 weeks and had a hard time getting her to eat the softened hard food until we added moist canned food to it. This past week she has been starving herself and will not eat anything. Not even boiled chicken. We took her to the vet. She was dehydrated but not sick. So he put her on a milk supplement, 1 can carnation milk, 1 can of water and an egg. She devours it and I Know she's hungry but she will not eat anything we've offered her. What should we do? This problem has put her behind on her shots also.

Answer
I would go back to your veterinarian, they should have told you how long she is going to need to be on the supplement. Your biggest mistake is that you brought the puppy home at 5 weeks, in most states it is illegal to sell a puppy until 8 weeks. This is mainly because they still need their litter to learn different behaviors, and more importantly competing to eat their food.

She may need to be eating canned food mixed in with dry food, usually it also works if you put them on a more quality food such as Taste of Wild, Nutro, Innova, California Natural, Merrick ect. Sometimes it also helps if you warm the food up as well as wetting it down and adding some really good canned for in with the dry food.

Otherwise if she continues not to eat you will have to keep taking her to the vet to get IV fluids because she will become dehydrated and hungry again...this will make her weaker and unable to function.
