Question
I have an 11 month old Dane; my baby. She is a princess!!! I have noticed lately she is throwing up randomly. She chews A Lot, maybe getting things stuck in her throat? It is distressing because i find myself frustrated about having to clean it up!! It generally happens after eating, she will throw up a lot of whole food, like it was never chewed up at all. Errrg..What to do, i have called the vet; he says as long as she has an appetite and reg. temp it is fine.. Any thoughts?

Answer

Slow down Dog Bowls
First and foremost, I would personally switch vets. In my opinion any vet telling you that it is OK for your dog to throw up as long as she has an appetite and a regular temperature is not properly educated in large breeds. Second it is NOT OK for your dog to throw up, if she is puking up whole chucks of food that means that she is swallowing food, and this can cause gastric torsion, also known as bloat, which leads me to believe that your vet does not have a lot of experience with large breeds.

Third, you can either get her a slow down bowl, which I have attached a picture of, of you can get a ceramic ball which you put into the bottom of the bowl with the food around it. What both of these do is make your dog slow down and actually have to chew and dig into the bowl a little in order to get her food. I would try this and see if it works, you may have to use it for a while to make her understand that she needs to slow down the eating.

It may also help for you to moisten the food as well with hot water, make sure it is obviously not too hot, but warm enough that it will entice her to eat.

Let me know how it goes!
