Hamster bedding

Question
Dear Hilary Schiavone-Brensinger,
I've heard that fluffy bedding for hamsters is bad.  I, of course, use the normal pine bedding for him, but have been putting a little fluffy bedding in the top.  He seems to like it, but I want to make sure it won't hurt him.  It's called "Sweet Dreams."  It's all natural non-toxic cotton with tangle-free short strands.  Thank You,
Mindy

Answer
Hi Mindy!  I have never seen any ill effects from that type of bedding.  I suppose if eaten, the bedding would cause an intestinal obstruction.  As long as your hamster doesn't eat the bedding, it should be safe.
If you feel uncomfortable using this bedding, try Carefresh.  It's recycled newspaper and it is relatively soft. This is said to be the safest bedding of all.
I hope this helps!
Hilary
