Question
my kitten bella has been having really bad diareah for over a week now. i took her to the vet to have her tested for coccidia and the vet told me it was just worms, i used the dewormer, and there has still been no improvement. i am worried that she is going to dehydrate if the problem is not fixed soon. what else can i do?

Answer
If the kitten has a large worm burden it is possible that multiple dewormings might be needed to clear them from her system enough to reduce diarrhea.  However, I would also consider other possible causes.

Do you feed her milk at all?  Kittens can be lactose intolerant and this therefore can lead to diarrhea. Other food intolerances also exist so you may need to try a different diet for her (however food changes themselves can cause diarrhea so this is not ideal). A wet food diet would be most beneficial as there is a high water content which can assist in hydration.

Is she having any other signs other than diarrhea?  Has she been exposed to any other cats?  Has your veterinarian checked for Giarrdia?
