My Beagles Eye

Question
Hi Jana,
I have a 2 1/2 year old beagle. Recently, my little cousin and I were playing Wii. If you don't know what a Wii is, it's a game console that uses a wireless remote for playing games. So, my little cousin and I were playing Wii bowling ( in this game you use the remote to pretend it's a bowling  ball and raise the remote and bring it down just like how you would throw a bowling ball) and when she (my 4 year old cousin) lowered the remote to release the ball, she hit my beagle's eye with impressive power; I mean really hard that it made my beagle cry. Now, my dog has a small blue line around her pupil. She can still see, and the blue line is fading away. I'm sorry to say we did not take her to the vet because we didn't think it was major. Now she has discharge coming out of her eye. My mom said she had that before the accident, but I never noticed. The discharge in her eye is like the discharge that comes out of our eyes sometimes in the morning (do you call that stuff discharge?? I don't know because I'm only 12.). So I don't know if it's normal for dogs to have discharge or not. So, is it normal or not??
Thanks so much for your help,

Answer
If she can still see I would wait but I don't like any eye injury going without being seen by a vet. You cannot fix an eye if you let an injury go too long.
No, discharges are not normal. I have a dog that rarely has any discharge from her eyes and she is 11 yrs old.
So that alone is a good reason to have your Mom take her into the vets.

I hope she will be okay but you really need to have her eye looked at. There could be damage in there that might not be visible from the outside.
