Fleas/ticks

Hello Dr.
I have been told to use Sevin dust on our dogs and cat for flea control, I was wondering what your opinion on this is.  
Any info on flea/tick repellent would be greatly appreciated..

I am not familiar with this product.  Generally powders or dusts are not very effective, are messy and must be re-applied every few days.  If any of your pets have respiratory problems this could aggravate them.  And I am not sure about the safety of the products when the cats groom themselves and ingest it.
