lactation

Hello, I own two shi-tzu dogs, male and female, the question I have is do dogs lactate sometimes if they are not pregnant? My one year old female is lactating she has had one heat but we kept her away from the male.  

Answer
Some dogs will lactate with a false pregnancy. If she is truly lactating you should have the vet look her over as they can also develop uterine infections with a false pregnancy.

Better to be safe then not. And remember that two dogs in one house can find a way when one is in heat!!
