lethargic dog

Question
Hi. Our rottweiler who is about 3 years old has some gurgling in her stomach yesterday, and a little today.  It was heard when you were close to her. She seemed fine all day.  We went to church for one hour, and when we came home, she was very lethargic.  She's been holding her head down and seems like she wants to vomit, but didn't. She ate about a handful of her normal food, but not like usual and not the normal amount. She's moving around okay, but just very slowly.  She seems to be urinating okay and her bowel movement this evening was normal.  She seems to be breathing a little heavy, but mainly, seems like picking up her head is a chore.  We cannot figure out what happened in that hour we were gone or what is wrong with her.  Any ideas?  Thank you for your help.

Answer
My first thought when I hear this is that the dog ate something that not only has upset his stomach but she could have some pancreatitis going on also. That is a very painful condition brought on by eating something a bit out of the ordinary- something as simple as a piece of your turkey sandwich.

She is in pain most likely and that is why she won't lift her head. She could have hurt her neck also, but that is less likely.

I would call your vet in the morning and see if you can get her in if she isn't better.
If she is vomiting then you can bet she has some issues going on with her upper GI tract. Pancreatitis can be fatal so don't wait a long time if she isn't better by tomorrow.
