Question
Hi,

I just got a new persian male stud for my female persian.
As a new pet/breeder, he should be taken to the vet clinic for a general check-up; I am planning on breeding my female persian with him but before that he should have a pre-breeding check-up. So my question is: Do I have to do both a general checkup and a prebreeding checkup? or is the pre-breeding check-up enough to ensure he's healthy as a pet and breeder?

Thanks

Answer
I would think so. A check up is a check up unless there are a bunch of tests you want run. We never did more than look the cat over for congenital defects, bad teeth, bad eyes, etc.
Make sure his vaccinations are up to date and that he has been or get him tested for ALL of the fatal, and communicable diseases that are spread via breeding such as Leukemia, FIP, FIV, Calicivirus, and herpes.

I can tell you this however, I have never seen a Persian male that was both a PET and a breeder. Most toms get too nasty to be pets!!
