Seizure in our White German Shepherd

Question
Hi, and thanks for helping with my question. We have a 4 year-old White German Shepherd we rescued two years ago... she is the best dog in the world, best temperment, and very loyal. She was kenneled and neglected when we got her and very, very overweight. Since we have gotten her she has lost about 20 lbs. and is very healthy.  She just had a seizure (I believe) tonight and we are very concerned. I was laying on our bed watching tv, and she was laying on the bed at my feet when she started to shake and tremble. I thought she was stratching herself, then after awhile, sat up and saw she was actually shaking badly and could not stand up. I called to my husband and he came in and she was almost over it. It lasted about 2 minutes and she is okay now. Could you tell me what this could be? Are White German Shepherds prone to seizures? We have never had a purebred and are not sure what they are susceptible to. Thanks so much for your help! She is fine now and laying at my feet - as I said, she is a very, sweet dog and a huge part of our family unit. We will do anything to help her.

Answer
Any dog can have a seizure.  You need to see how often these happen and mark it on a calendar.  If they become frequent, more than one a month, then she needs treatment.  There are many things that can cause seizures and what looks like a seizure may not be that at all, so have your vet run a complete blood chemistry panel to see if there is something going on inside the dog causing this seizure activity.
