Yorkshire Terrier ill with wretching and bloody diahorrhea

Question
Hi my yorkie is elderly and has previously been seen by a vet who carried out blood tests which were all o.k. He was given antibiotics which clear up the problem for a few days but then they seem to reoccur quite frequently.  I changed to Burns Holistic dog food within a few hours his stool was normal we have had three months of him being really fit and healthy but over the last few days he has started wretching through the night and passing bloody faecal matter. The gases in his stomach usually herald the onset of his being unwell.  I fasted him for 24 hours then gave him boiled brown rice and fish. This seems to have settled him a little.  How long should I carry on before reverting back to his normal diet.  Is this diet I am giving adequate or should I introduce something else. We will take him back to our vet but I thought I would try and correct the illness myself before getting him more antibiotics which only work for a short period.  Please could you advise me on the care and diet for our lovely old yorkie. Thank you and I look forward to your reply.

Answer
Hello Sylvia:  Your little old kid may need help from the vet.  If a bacteria has take over, in his belly, he will need some medication.
A wonderful diet and rest may not cure his problem.  Also, he could dehydrate very quickly with this problem.

You sound like a very good mom!  I would take this little one to the vet because of his age.  He is a senior citizen and may need more help than you are able to give him.

Good Luck with this!!!
I will be thinking of you.
