Cat: Reaction to rabies vaccine?

Question
Hi, I have a cat that has a history of allergic reactions to some vaccines, specifically rabies. I just took her in for her first three year booster two days ago. My vet gave her her usual extra shot of cortisone to address any allergic response. The rest of that day and following day, she seemed fine/normal. Starting tonight, she can't seem to settle down or relax/sleep. She is very vocal, crying/yelling to get my attention. Her ears are slightly pinker inside than normal and somewhat warm to the touch. She is eating, drinking and grooming and tends to stop and lick her legs and paws somewhat frequently. Basically, the behavior is out of the norm for her--I'm not sure if something spooked her or if she is not feeling well for some reason. Thanks

Answer
Lethargy and fever are normal after any vaccination as the immune system must work to produce antibodies to protect the body.  I would give her a day or two to recover.  However, if she is really sore and acting unusual your best bet is to call your vet for advice since s/he knows your cat better.  She may need another cortisone injection, but most likely this will just cause more stress and soreness than letting her recuperate on her own.
