Torn pad

PLease help me. My parents live on a farm and they watched my dog for the day. The pad on the back of his front leg (almost 1/3 of the way up his leg) is ripped almost completely off. WHat is the best way to handle this situation? Should I take him to the vet or just tape it up and let it heal on its own? Thanks so much for your time :)

You can probably predict my answer: When in doubt, it is always best to take your pet to the veterinarian. The metacarpal pad will probably have to be cut off if it is not attached by enough skin and blood supply to heal if sutured back. The leg will have to be bandaged and, in all likelihood, he will need antibiotics.
