Great Dane Ear Cropping - To old to do so?

Question
I am thinking about getting a 13week Old Great Dane from a Reputable Breeder, She has no Vets in the area that will touch a Danes ears of that age. I have 1 vet in town that actually prefers to do Danes ears at around 12-14weeks oddly enough & I'm just wondering if I'm wasting my time & Money? I mean what are the chances of My pups ears standing even with consistent ear taping? I know that it just depends every dog is different with their ear Cartlidge and things, but would you recommend going ahead and doing this? I know you are NOT a vet, but Ive read and read about dane pups getting their ears done at 13-14weeks with no problems. What do you think?

Thanks. =)

Answer
You are taking a huge risk having a dog this age ear's cropped. There is a huge amount of aftercare, etc, and most vets will NOT do it for the reason of age. Besides the incredible pain and suffering that this puts the puppy through, what is the point of this unless this dog is of the highest quality show stock and will be shown also.

Unless that is the case, ear cropping is as cruel and unnecessary as tail docking is. It is all for vanity.

However, it is your choice and your money. My opinion about the pain is for my concern for the pup. I had a Dane for many years with natural ears and she was beautiful, deeply loved by all. I would never put a puppy through this at any age but certainly not at 4 1/2 -5 months old.

Most people nowadays think that natural ears are the way they are supposed to be anyway. Unless you are in the show circuit or have seen a Dane with cropped ears, most people don't know the difference.
