My cats ear infection

Question
I took my cat to a new Vet. in Virginia because we are new to the area. My cat has an ear infection and the doctor prescribed Mometamax and I have looked it up only to find that its "For otic use in dogs ONLY" Should I give her the meds and hope the doctor is right??? Not only that, but the instructions I was given is to put a MODERATE amount in both ears once a day, and the directions on the web say only 4 drops for dogs under 30 lbs. My cat is 11 lbs. I am terribly concerned! Should I be??

Answer
Without know what type of infection there is in the ear, Mometamax can be dangerous if there is a ruptured eardrum.  We do use it in cats even if it is not on the label because of the tremendous expense getting it labelled for cats, which rarely have the same bacterial infections as dogs.
