Blind Doxie

Question
Dear Dr.
I have a 8 year old Doxie that has recently gone blind.  Per our vet, this was caused by her having trouble to breathe.  She tried so hard to breathe that she blew out her retinas.  Does this make sense to you?  Is this a common occurrence?  Is there anything at all that can be done to restore some or all of her sight?
The second part of my question concerns the medication we are giving her to help her breathing condition.  We are currently giving her Therodur (100mg) tablets.  This makes her groggy and confused.  Is there an alternate medication that we can give her?
Sincerely,
Frank

Answer
Hi Frank - What your are talking about happened to my mother about 10 years ago... Yes, it can happen.  My mom did get her sight back after a few weeks.  Once the swelling went down she could see again.
VERY rare for this to happen to a person or pet.

If the Therodur is too strong ask the vet about lowering the dosage... YOU may just need a little adjustment and it will be much better for your Doxie kid.

I would refer you to the NuVET Immune System Booster - Please call and order some for your baby... This will help her to build up her health and may help to repair her eyes... Who knows, only time will tell.  This NuVET Plus is great for allergies and respiratory problems like she must have.
It will cost you about .50 cents per day for the NuVET Plus -
Use this ORDER CODE 81098 - THEY CAN'T SELL TO THE PUBLIC unless you have this order code.
Not sold in any stores ( just use the breeder/vet code above)
Here is the secure web site for ordering:
http://www.nuvet.com/81098
1-800-474-7044  ( VET code order/ 81098)

Let me know how she does on the NuVET and a low dosage of the Therodur tablets...

I will expect an update from you in a few weeks... OK

Talk to you soon
