Question
what are the side effects of Deramaxx on dogs?   You see, I would prefer to give him (14 yrs) Flexicose (w/glucosamine) for for general joint pain but it gives him diarreah.   I also heard the pill form of glucosamine is not nearly as effective.   Do you have any suggestions??    Much appreciated......Rick - PA

Answer
HI Richard
I don't know a lot about Deramaxx other than it is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory.  As with all medications, there can be side-effects, and long-term use can lead to toxic buildup.  Some of the side-effects listed for this drug can include: Kidney damage and secondary effects on the heart, Gastro-intestinal ulceration, Liver damage.
Recent studies have also found now that glucosamine is not acceptable to be used long-term.
Acupuncture is great for pain relief and joint inflammation.  There are also fabulous herbal remedies available.  Have a look at www.herbal-treatments.com and also www.naturalrearing.com.

The herbalists at these two businesses will be able to assist you and inform you on the best products for your dog.

I hope this is helpful.
With thanks,
Silva.
