Question
I hav 3 freshwater fantails and i went away for a week and when i came back the water was cloudy and my fish were all really looking down!  The oldest one which ive had for about a year, was down near the bottom of the tank with his fins near his body and he also has gone a bit red near his fins. My second oldest is a white fantail and she was behind my filter pump and nearly her whole body was red! She was behind the pump the day before aswell. She also has these white spots on her fins and some of her body. Now my newest fish is a calico fantail and she has the white dots all over her body but is acting normal. My oldest fish is also starting to bet the whit dots. When i fed them though they all raced over to get the food. (But its natural for them to rush to food.)  Please help! Its the first time ive had a fishtank and i dont want them all to die!

Answer
The white spot are a parasite called ick. You can easily treat this with a medication bought from your local pet store. Your tank also is displaying some water quality issues. I would complete a water change before for add the treatment. Complete a 50% water change and also add aquarium salt. Dissolve the salt in a cup of de-chlorinated water before adding it to the tank. Never just pour in salt. The directions as to how much salt to add is on the box. You can also buy this at your pet store. Raising the temperature in your tank will also help fight off this parasite, it ends their life cycle faster. Any other question please ask. :)
