Fish species

Question
I have had a 30 gallon aquarium for 6months now.  I have a pleco, 7 platties and about 15-20 guppies.  I would really like to introduce different species to the tank.  What would you suggest?

Answer
Dear Janice,
A nice "centerpiece" fish would be good for your tank. That is 1-2 fish that stand out from the rest. Gouramis are great for this. Either the Three-spot gourami, gold gourami, Pearl Gourami or the smaller types of gouramis like the Dwarf gourami.

Your tank is pretty well-stocked already. With the large numbers of guppies, the pleco, and 7 platies. It's always better to understock your tank. Your guppies may reproduce even more and you may have an overcrowded tank before long.
The most I might add to your tank is a gourami or two.

Be sure to always keep up on water changes and be careful with feedings and you should do well!

Hope this helps!
