Fish for 20 Gal Tank

Hello,

I am getting ready to start a 20 gallon tank and wanted to get some fish
recomendations for this size.  I'd like to keep it as natural as possibe, ie fish
from the same part of the world, and a healthy population size (i am fine with
fewer # of fish to keep them happy).  I've kept aquariums as a child, but this
will be my first in about15 years.

A twenty gallon can hold a nice combination of fish, if you work it right.

For south american fish you could have one or two german blue rams, or keyhole cichlids as centerpiece fish with a small school of tetras (6-10 of them, all the same species)  and 6 otocinclus catfish for clean up.  

for asian
you could have a dwarf gourmi or a betta *not both* with a school of rasboras and a few small kuhli or yoyo loaches...
