Question -
How do I get rid of the slime in my fish tank? I have 3 pacus and this is the first fish tank i have had. Also what do i need to feed the pacus? If i feed then the wrong food, would it make the tank slimy. I have a 10 gal tank.
Answer -
Hi Audrey,
A tank should never be slimy. Is it possible that you are feeding the fish too much? You should only feed the fish enough that they can eat immediately (within a couple of minutes). Never put food in the tank for them to "eat later". It will just pile up on the bottom of the tank and rot. That could be the source of your "slime".
You should also change 25% of the water in your tank once a week, every week. That is in addition to having a proper filter working in the tank.

AnswerHi Audrey,
If your water has chlorine added to it by your municipal water supplier, then you need to do something to get rid of the chlorine. You can either add a chemical to remove it, or you can leave the water in an open bucket for 24 hours and the chlorine will evaporate.
However, if they add chloramine to your water -- that won't evaporate and you need to use one of the chemicals to take it out.
