Question
I have 2 Convict Cichlids, a male and a female.  They have bred multiple times, but I have never been able to keep the babies alive.  Every time they breed, the male gets very aggressive with the female and will injure her pretty badly.  Should I separate them, and if I do, which one should be removed?  Also, any tips for keeping the babies alive better?

Answer
Hi Sean,
You could either separate them or add a lot of structure to the tank so that the weaker fish (the female) has a place to hide.  I don't mean add a plant or a bit of wood, I mean add a LOT of stuff.  Basically, if you can see the back of the tank from the front, you need more structure for most cichlid tanks.

I would remove the male if you want to remove one.
