sick Koi?

Question
Hi Ron,
About 6 months ago I bought this new house and it came with a Koi pond and some Koi fish and a bunch of goldfish. I think one of the Koi is sick. For the past few days I've been finding him laying on the bottom motionless. I keep thinkng he's dead, but then I poke him and he moves and starts swimming around for a little while, but inevitably, next time I check, he's laying on the bottom again. His top fin looks very sickly - used to be black, now it looks greyish and sorta rotty. Unfortunately, I have no idea how old this fish is - he's probably 8-9 inches long. Do these symptoms sound familiar to you? Is there anything I can do to help him?

Answer
Hi Lauren,
It does sound like he is very sick and unfortunately I doubt if there is anything you can do about it.  It may be that he is being attacked by other fish in there, so if you can try separating him from the rest that may help.
