what type of fish?

Hi - my 5 1/2 year old son would like a fish for his room.  I want something very low maintenance, and I don't know anything about fish.
Are there any fish that will survive in just a bowl, without a filter?

Goldfish are good for fish bowls, but they make lots of messes cause they are very dirty fish.

I would recommend a Beta because it is less to take care of.
Make sure it gets fed a pinch of food once a day. The light is on for about 8 hours a day only and clean the    bowl out once a day.

There should be only one beta in the tank, unless if you    want 1 male and 1 female for they will fight.
