Question
Hi

I'm concerned about my plec.  He/She usually spends most of his time under the wood in my 60l tank.  Whenever he is disturbed he makes a dash for the nearest cover he can.  However this afternoon when I hovered the tank instead of making a dash for it he just lay there.  I thought he was dead but he is moving, very slowly.  I've had a look around the web at other plec problems but can't find any that fit his problem.  His colour is good, he's just very lethargic.  I did treat the tank for finrot yesterday as a couple of my swordtails have symptoms.  Can you advise me what to do to help my plec?  Ana

Answer
Hi,
That is normal, as plecos are shy, nocturnal fish.

Medications being added to the aquarium can sometimes do weird things to the water quality. Is there anyway you could tell me the stats after the dosing? They often drastically lower the dissolved oxygen....

Just future words of advice, plecos often "rest" and behave just like this naturally. It can be a sign that they feel safe.
Whenever you treat for fin rot, it is always due to poor water quality. Use medications only as a last resort, instead, do water changes and clean the filters.
