Setting up a tropical tank

Question
Hello,
My partner used to have a tropical tank a good few years ago and we want to get it set up again. The glass has lots of limescale marks on it and I'm not sure how to get it off? I'm reluctant to use any chemicals as the tank is 3ft x 1ft x 1.5ft so I can't tip it up to get the water out!
Also - do you have any helpful tips that might help us along the way? We have bought the heater, filter, gravel, ornaments, new lamp, and think we are ready to get the fish?
Any help or hints would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Answer
Hey there Stacie! =]

I have been researching your limescale question and it says on a few websites that using coca cola or vinegar are good at getting rid of limescale :)

Make sure you try and swill it out like ask your partner to help you. put it outside, on the flat and tip it on its side (carefully!) and use a hose to swill and clean the sides with a wet tissue or toilet paper!  Its what I do when I clean my tanks outside!

Then let it dry for a while then of cause put it where you want and add the gravel and ornaments, and I put a plate or a cup at the bottom of the tank and let the water run onto that so it doesn't disturb the gravel!

Fill it around halfway then add your plants and i add my heater at this time, but remember not to switch it on for around 20 minutes after you put it in the tank as the heater needs to adjust to the tank water temperature!

Fill it up then to the top or the tanks nominal capacity, and add filter, switch it on and a bubbler or airstone whatever you have =]

By now you should be able to switch the heater on!

Make sure you add conditioner to the water to take out chlorine and chloramine!

Then leave the tank for 24 hours for the conditioner to take effect, then you think about fish to help the tank cycle.

http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm ---> this website will explain the tank cycle!

Sorry for the length and I am sorry if you did know all this but I thought it would be helpful :)

Let me know on what fish you would like to add and I can help you with your compatibility and the fish you can choose to cycle :)
