Lucky has a growth!

Question
I've had my sweet little beta for almost a year and Over the last few months he's been developing a couple lumps on one side and one on top, jut in front of his dorsal fin.  Two of the lumps are the same color as his scales, and one lump is a dull white color - Lucky was white when I got him but has progressively gotten more and more colorful over the year (pink, blue, purple, red!)  He is very active in his 1.5 plus liter bowl and I recently began changing his water every couple days.  I'm afraid to try any treatment until I can get a diagnosis.  PLEASE HELP my little buddy!  He sits on my desk as work and is quite the office mascot.

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Traci,
Unfortunately this does not sound familiar to me. Sometimes fish can actually develop tumors or abscesses, and there is not much you can do about it. I'm not sure if this is true in Lucky's case. Either way, the best you can do is keep his water clean and fresh, always feed him the proper amount of food and try keeping a varied diet, and use aquarium salt or some other sort of conditioner to keep him stress free. You might even consider moving him into something a bit larger, like a 5 gallon. They are fairly cheap (about 25 bucks) and easy to set up, and Lucky will be much happier.
