Question
I recently bought a green spotted puffer fish and was wondering if i could keep him in a tank with an oscar or a tetra and what kind of food is the best for him to eat.

Answer
Hi Angel,
The spotted puffer fish will not do well with tankmates.  They are fin nippers.  He needs a 30 gallon tank.  Two puffers, you must double this.  You also will need good filtration, so if you have a 30 gallon tank, you will need a filter for a 50 gallon tank.  When they are young, they can do well in fresh water, but once they reach 2 inches, you must start adding salt.  They live in brackish water, and can live for 15 years.  They have teeth, that will continue to grow all their life.  You must make sure that they have snails for maintaining their teeth.  If they do not have snails, their teeth will grow to a point where the puffer can no longer eat, and will starve to death.  They must grind their teeth, so snails are very important.  Hard shelled meaty foods are a must.  Crayfish, scallops, clams, and crabs are the main foods he should have.  Never feed him feeder fish.  Feeder fish are almost always full of disease, and if eaten by your puffer, he too will get sick.
They are very intelligent fish, and make great pets.
I hope this helps.
