Question
hi lynda
i have had a male balloon molly for a while, the other day i bought a new male balloon molly. ever since then the original molly has been been picking on the new fish and he hides in the corner. when he comes out to swim, he gets picked on again. do male balloon molly's normally fight?

Answer
Hi Skye,
When keeping Mollies you must have at least 3 females to one male.  Keeping only males will cause fights, and stress to the fish.  Your male will continue to pick on the new one you put in until he gets so stressed he will become sick.  You must buy 6 females to stop them from fighting.
I would also like to add that you should add 1 teaspoon of diluted aquarium salt to five gallons of water.  Mollies do best in salty alkaline water.  This however will not stop the fighting.  The only way to stop this is to add females.  One or two females will not do.  They will be continually harassed by the males, you must get 6 females to have a happy tank.
Hope this helps.
