red devil hyper?

Question
I recently bought a red devil cichlid from a local pet store and brought him home to a brand new fish tank I had set up a few days before. He had plenty of hiding places and like one in particular in wich a few days later he had excavated several entrances to. My only worry is that he won't eat he spends the day hiding mostly but I noticed about 2 gallons of water missing from his tank. I replaced about half of what was missing and tonight he's been swimming around like crazy throwing gravel around took a couple bites at the filter swimming up and down fast. Still no eating tho. What is going on?

Answer
Hi Javier,
Digging is perfectly normal for your fish.  That is a good sign.  He will eat when he feels hungry. It often takes a fish days or even a week or more to get used to a new tank.  Be sure not to let uneaten food remain in the tank. It will rot and foul the water.
