Question
Hi Ron, i have a question. My apsito cacatuoides females spawn Tuesday and im pretty sure they hatch because i dont see the eggs anymore, they might hatch on Friday, the problem now is that i cant see them, some people told me they not ready to free swimming, can you tell me when they are going to be able to swim with the mom or when im going to be able to see them

Answer
Hi Kevin,
When cichlids hatch, they turn into "wrigglers".  Wrigglers cannot swim.  They feed off their yolk sac for about 4 days. At that point, they finish the yolk, and rise up in the water column and swim.  It is also at that point that they begin eating and so you need to provide them with food.  Frozen baby brine shrimp would be a great suggestion to try.
