betta compatiblity

Question
i have two cichlids and the are about the same size of my male betta.and the cichlids have lived in the same tank for awhile.and i was wondering if i could put the betta in a new tank with the two other fish.and i wanted to know what were some other kinds of fish i could buy and put with them?

Hi Megan,
  I would be very cautious about putting a male betta with cichlids.  Many cichlids are highly territorial.  Bettas are highly territorial.  The two MIGHT not go well together.  

  I have seen gouramis live okay with bettas.  Also many kinds of tetras do okay with bettas.  Catfish certainly will work.

 As for living with the cichlids, that depends entirely on which kind of cichlids they are.
